DeLorean from Back to the Future visits The Round Foundry & Marshalls Mill
April 1 2019
Tenants and employees of businesses at The Round Foundry & Marshalls Mill estate were bemused and surprised to find a DeLorean replica from the popular Back to the Future franchise appear outside of Marshalls Mill on Wednesday.
The prop vehicle, including the onboard “flux capacitor”, was part of a stunt by a collaboration of organisations in Rotherham to submit a bid to Arts Council England titled “Flux Capacitor for the Arts Councils, Creative People and Places Programme”. The vision is to empower communities to create their own cultural offer. Arts Council England are tenants of the estate.
The replica is modelled on the DeLorean featured in the popular 1985 film as a time-travel device built by Dr. Emmet L Brown and used to travel over 130 years during the film trilogy and is one of 87 known DeLoreans that are converted into “Time Machines”.
Tenants and visitors were able to get photos of themselves in the vehicle, which also includes a dashboard signed by members of the cast.
Lisa Riley, Events Co-Ordinator at The Round Foundry & Marshalls Mill estate commented “This was a fantastic surprise for the estate and the tenants really enjoyed seeing a real life ‘time machine’ on site.
We have a range of businesses here and often have these kinds of activities taking place, but this was very much out of the box thinking!
We have some enthusiastic Back to the Future fans here as tenants, so the stunt was extremely popular.”
